N.U.C.L.E.A.R Facility

Design Challenge

Rube Goldberg Machine Design: must conceptualize and design a unique Rube Goldberg Machine that accomplishes a simple task in a creative and entertaining manner. The duration of the machine's operation should be EXACTLY 450 Frames (0-449) at 30FPS, reflecting their animation and motion graphics skills. Students MUST use the provided C4D File. The Silver Ball Must Exit the top hole at EXACTLY Frame 90 and Exit at EXACTLY Frame 350.

Design Idea 1- N.U.C.L.E.A.R Facility

Setting: The Laboratory

Environment: Create a futuristic laboratory filled with holographic interfaces, sleek metallic surfaces, and glowing neon lights. The lab is centered around advanced scientific experiments with explosions, digital life, and electric containment fields Atmosphere: Dimly lit, with flickering lights and the occasional energy pulse running through cables, giving a sense of high tension and advanced technology.

Setting: The Audio Studio

A Environment: Design a sleek, futuristic audio studio with cutting-edge equipment, soundproofed walls, and a mix of analog and digital gear. The studio is filled with glowing dials, touchscreen interfaces, and massive speakers Atmosphere: The studio should have a creative and high - energy vibe, with colorful LED lights pulsing in sync with background music or sound waves.

Technical Execution

Initial Development

When I started this project I already hade a pretty good Idea of where I wanted to go with this, so with the Houdini explosion tests already rendered I decided to Experiment with what other types of fun effects I could add to this. I originally was just gonna have an explosion inside of glass but as the project went on i tried something a bit more ambitious

Process

1. Model all of the assets in C4D

5. Combine Voronoi fracture and explosion inside Houdini

2. 3D animation, primarily done in C4D.

4. Export Voronoi fracture as a Alebic

6. Animations combined and running together.

3. Explosions created in Houdini and rendered as a VDB to import in C4D.

Learning and Outcomes

This project required alot of experimentation to get right, this project showed encouraged me to add more to my original vision for this project, not everything is set in stone once the plan is made. Things can be added to push the design even further when proposed, knowing this is what elevated it to an excellent compositing piece and one of my personal favorites.
